The Kia pride from other worlds

here in the Philippines there are only 2 types available the pride hatch and sedan

I as an automotive enthusiast really also like some compact cars which has been a transport staple of many countries around the world,  well South Korea is no exception in my enthusiasm of compact cars as they made one of the world's best-selling compact car, known to be Korea's people car, thew Kia pride

The Kia Pride(known in Asia and Europe) and in the Americas and Japan as the Ford festiva is a subcompact car that was marketed by the Ford Motor Company between 1986 and 2002. The Festiva was sold in Japan,North America, South America, and Australasia.

Production started in Japan in 1986, for sale through Ford Japan's Autorama dealer network. The Festiva used the Mazda DA platform and Mazda's B series inline-four engines, which continued the trend of Fords built and designed by Mazda for the Asia-Pacific market such as the Laser and Telstar. Assembly under license by Kia Motors started soon afterwards, who at the time were partly owned by Ford.

In markets where the Ford Fiesta was available, the first generation Festiva was sold as the Mazda 121 from 1988 until 1991, when it was replaced by the Autozam Revue, also re-badged as the 121.

this post comrades I will give you some brief technical review of the Kia pride, Ford festiva, Mazda 121 and the newer modern kia pride from

Ford festiva
A Ford festiva hatchback

The Ford festiva is the original name of all models of the series, the festiva was a result of the cooperation of design and manufacture plans between Ford and Mazda, the car was targeted to budget conscious consumers in America and japan, its big selling point is compactness, economy and long service life, both models were powered by Mazda's B series of gasoline engines, the hatchback is powered by the 1000cc B1 and the sedan is powered by the 1300cc B3 engine

Ford Festiva β Sedan

the B engines were updated in 1994 to meet with international emission requirements it was now equipped with an electronic single point fuel-injection system, which became standard in later american and european models.

Mazda 121

Mazda in Japan began selling the 121 in 1987 to sit below the 323 in Europe and Australasia the 121 was not sold in Japan. The Mazda version was available in a single three-door hatchback body variant, powered by the 1.3 liter engine and mated to the five-speed manual transmission.

The 121 was sold in Australia from February 1987. It featured a sliding rear bench seat, which increased cargo space by as much as 180 millimeters (7.1 in). Levels of trim in Australia comprised the base-line Deluxe, the Super Deluxe, and the Fun Top (based on the Super Deluxe) featuring a large electric sliding canvas sunroof. From October 1988, the Super Deluxe was discontinued and replaced by the Shades trim.

Mazda issued an update for the 121 (released in October 1989 for the Australian market) with a new grille insert, body-hued exterior trim, redesigned instrumentation and interior seats and trim.

you will notice the Ford festiva and the Mazda 121 hatchbacks are 3-door models, this scheme has been used in order to reduce production costs and make the vehicle more affordable and cheaper to buy.

Kia Pride

The "Kia Pride"-badged version of the Festiva was manufactured in South Korea by Kia Motors from 1986 to 2000. The Pride was sold in four-door sedan form (in LX, GTX, and β trim levels), as well as three- and five-door hatchback forms (the CD-5) and five-door wagon body styles. The Pride was replaced in 2000 by the Rio.

The Pride launched in the United Kingdom in June 1991, fitted with both the 1.1 and 1.3 liter engines. The 1.1 was only available as a three-door in the basic L trim. Fuel injection appeared on the 1.3 liter-engined models in November 1994, referred to as the "1.3i". At this time, the 1.1 liter version was deleted. December 1995 saw the Start 1.3i three-door replace the L, but from June 1999, the entry-level three-door was again renamed S with the higher-level three- and five-doors known as the SX.Production ended during 2000.

Kia sold the pride not only in South Korea but also in South America, Australia and in the Philippines, the Kia pride started to sell in 1993 and continued to stand the test of the Philippine automotive market because of its economy and , due to its compactness, maneuverability, and economy it became one of the sought after cars from all classes of life, and it also became a staple taxi platform in the country.   kia motors philippines continued to sell the pride until 2006 under the models CD-5 Ecco and Pride LX β, while the CD5 used the B1 1000cc engine and later in 2004 with the B3 engine, the LX beta was equipped with the Fuel injected 1300cc B3 engine .

Kia prides we never seen in our country and that may get your attention(and even have you to buy one and bring it here):

Kia Pride Wagon

The Kia Pride wagon is one of the few unique modifications Kia Motors did to the Kia Pride, Sold only in Europe, it can be found from Spain, the Germanic lands to Belize. it was said this models were intended only for the european market, but who knows, a filipino there can buy one as I see in some are also found in Turkey, the price of used pride wagons range from 25,000 to 100K pesos if converted to Philippine currency there engines are all fuel injected B3 gasoline engines.

Chinese Kia Prides

It seems also the Chinese even loved the compactness and affordability of the Kia Pride here are some examples of Kia Prides built by Dongfeng Yueda Motors in Yancheng, Jiangsu China, this model was given a revamped grille design and SRS airbags.

Saipa 132 and 141 and the Iranian Festivas

SAIPA is an Iranian automotive manufacturer based in Tehran and has been actively underlicense manufacturing  of many brands of cars which include Kia Cars, Renault and even Nissan.

SAIPA built the Kia Pride in Iran under license using up to 85 percent local parts as the "SAIPA Pride" from 2001 to 2005. Since 2003, a new five-door liftback model based on the Pride called the "SAIPA 141 has been produced, while continuing to sell the Iranian version of the Pride under the names "SAIPA Saba GLXi", "SAIPA Nasim Safari" (four-door sedan) and "SAIPA Nasim DMi" (five-door hatchback). Compared the Saba and Nasim, the SAIPA 141 features revised rear styling and interior design. SAIPA 141 is sold in Venezuela under name "Turpial". Another variant, known as the "SAIPA 132" began production in 2008 and differs from the Saba with its revised front and rear styling. A pickup body style of this car has also been produced since 2008 called "SAIPA Pick-Up", with a 500-kilogram (1,100 lb) payload.

SAIPA Saba

SAIPA Nasim
The SAIPA 132

The Saipa 132 seems to be the newest Kia Pride to hit the middle eastern auto market together with the facelifted SAIPA  141, what I like about what the Iranian auto manufacturer did is they updated the style of Kia Pride's front grille and bumper styling, and also the new dashboard, cluster and instrument panel really makes me want some OEM parts from SAIPA and fit it in a Local Kia Pride, especially the CD5..

the 132 and 141 share the same components and they are built in both hatchback and sedan versions

here are some pics of the SAIPA 132 and the newly facelifted Saipa 141:

Saipa 132 Saba

Saipa 141 Nasim

And it seems both the 141 and the 132 have optional factory trim levels which customers can choose.. hooray to the very idealistic Iranians!!! I commend you for giving the Kia pride a new look..

The SAIPA 132's Dashboard, it seems its dimensions are the same to the orginal Kia Pride, makes me wanna buy a replacement dashboard from SAIPA, so how much does this cost? any idea, my comrade Iranian anime enthusiasts..

The SAIPA 141's instrument cluster has been updated by SAIPA installed over the original Kia pride dashboard.. COOL!!

SAIPA Kia Pride Pickup

Another "make me-want that car" SAIPA of Iran made will actually startle Filipino Kia Pride fans across the islands is that the SAIPA made a pickup version of the Kia Pride. called the SAIPA Pick-up,  Saipa stretched a regular LX chassis an additional 50 inches and cut a front half of a pride front part and merged it to create another new kind of Kia Pride-based vehicle the SAIPA pickup has a 500-kilogram (1,100 lb) payload.

Side flank view of a SAIPA Kia Pride Pickup GLXi..

The SAIPA 141 and 132 and pickup are still on Iranian production lines and are exported in 25 Arab states and there are a small number of them in Ukraine and in some east eurasian countries were there is an import dealer of SAIPA Motors,  All I can say about SAIPA is they are fantastic in revamping and modernizing the Kia Pride.. makes me want one to..

well for some more photos here are some I've got which are modified and pimped festivas and prides..

The 2010-11 Kia Pride

The new Kia pride for the International market and for south korea is actually a rebadged Kia Rio which is about to arrive at the near 2011 in the country, Kia has revamped it with more aggressive looks and sportier, well its not yet known if the name is weather Rio or Pride, but it seems some old lights will be sparked, but I prefer calling the Picanto the real Kia Pride..

Kia is soon going to put on sale a revamped Kia Pride (known as Kia Rio in other markets) in South Korea. For the 2010 model year, KDM -Korean Domestic Model- Kia Pride received a mid-life facelift and gained subtle styling modifications that were applied to exterior shape as well as interior.

Images that surfaced online before, revealed quite a number of styling enhancements were made to the car’s exterior and we have seen that it was the front-end of new Pride/Rio that gained majority of aesthetic improvements.

The image No.1 shows Kia Pride/Rio hosts new angular signature grille and a heavily redesigned front bumper, with trapezoidal air intake and a set of new fog-lights. The headlight shape stays largely the same, but black plastic bumper cladding, that many people didn’t like is gone.

At rear, Kia received a very nice plastic diffuser and chromed tail-pipe. Tail-lamps have also been slightly redesigned, while a set of eight-spoke alloy-wheels and redesigned side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals complete the changes made outside.

Kia Pride/Rio interior

Interior of a revamped Pride/Rio also features its own share of stylish improvements. As the the image No.2 reveals, the interior shape remains unchanged and only differs from the current model’s interior in details. Still, all the upgrades give the new Pride/Rio more upscale and quality interior look.

Updates inside include a completely redesigned, three-spoke multifunction steering-wheel, revised center stack with new audio system, redesigned instrument clusters with new orange-red lightning, new climate control knobs. There’s also a trip computer and a few other nice details such as aluminium pedals and redesigned head-rests at front seat.

A very important novelty in the new Pride/Rio is also the Eco-lamp placed on Rio’s dashboard. Kia Magentis/Optima facelift, that made its debut last year, has been the first Kia model to feature this important eco-device that helps lower the fuel consumption.

Since then, the Eco-driving system has spread to many other Kia models. It is also available in next Sorento, Forte sedan and Forte Koup and now, it has been also applied to Pride/Rio. You can expect to see the “Eco-light” applied to every new Kia model coming to the market in the forthcoming years.

Kia Pride/Rio engines

When I first revealed you facelifted Kia Pride/Rio, I haven’t included information on engine revisions. I told you that fuel efficiency ratings have been improved on all available four-cylinders, but I had no evidence (image) to prove.

Finally, I can show you the image that proves Kia engineers also worked hard on Rio’s engines. Their primary goal, to tweak the engines for better fuel consumption, have been achieved very successfully -see Kia Rio image No3. All of the available Rio engines now achieve from 7.3 to 15.7 percent higher fuel efficiency ratings.

well anyways I hope you got something new about the Kia Pride, well it seems that this Korean Mini car is the Mini car of standrads among its class,
